The property at 820 Rushville has been in the Hansen’s family for almost 60 years. On June 11th an appeal, filed by the disputed President of the La Jolla Community Planning Association (LJCPA), Joe LA Cava, was rejected by a 5-1 vote of the San Diego Planning Commission. This was the third consecutive appeal filed by Mr. La Cava and the LJCPA based on the ambiguous “community character” and “bulk and scale” argument often used by the group. After nearly two hours of public comments, it was Planning Commissioner Wagner’s turn to reprimand the imperfect approval process the Hansen’s, Whale Watch and the Whitney Mixed Use Building have had to endure to get approval of their 100% code compliant projects in La Jolla. Wagner went on to say; “I really cringe about some of the knee-jerk reactions coming out of the La Jolla Community Planning Group”. “I think sometimes the La Jolla Community Planning Group over reaches… and the process has not been kind to you”.
